DTV requirements checklist

A practical checklist for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): who qualifies, financial proof, soft-power documents and how the application works.

Published

What the DTV is

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a 5-year multiple-entry visa. Each time you enter Thailand you can stay for up to 180 days, and you can extend that stay once per entry for up to 180 more days. It was designed for remote workers and for people taking part in Thai “soft-power” activities such as Muay Thai, Thai cooking or Thai language and culture courses.

This checklist helps you see whether you are ready to apply. Every case is a little different, and the embassy can always ask for more.

1. Choose your category

The DTV has two broad routes:

  • Remote work: you work for a company or clients outside Thailand.
  • Soft power: you are enrolled in an approved activity, such as Muay Thai training.

We currently prepare applications on the soft-power route through Muay Thai training. If you plan to apply as a remote worker, message us first and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.

2. Check your passport

  • Valid for at least 6 months, with blank pages
  • All previous passports’ details available if Immigration or the embassy asks

3. Prepare financial proof

You need to show at least 500,000 baht (or the equivalent) held for at least 3 months. In practice:

  • Bank statements as PDF files, covering the required period
  • A screenshot of the current balance can help
  • Documents must be genuine and unedited. Altered or forged documents will be refused and can cause long-term problems.

If your savings are below the level or have not been held long enough, the DTV is not the right visa for you yet. We will tell you this upfront rather than take your case.

4. Supporting documents for your category

For the soft-power route through Muay Thai, the training camp issues an enrolment letter. We arrange this with the camp and check that it matches the rest of your file. Remote workers normally need an employment contract or client agreements and proof of the business.

5. Where you apply

The DTV is applied for outside Thailand through the Thai e-Visa system, under the embassy or consulate responsible for where you are. You must physically be in that country when the application is lodged. Some embassies ask for extra documents or a short stay before a decision; we explain what applies to your case.

6. Timing

Processing time depends on the embassy. Allow several weeks and do not book non-refundable travel until the visa is approved.

What we do

We check every document before submission, prepare the application, coordinate the training enrolment, and follow up if the embassy asks for anything more. If a DTV application we prepare is refused, you receive a full refund.

After you have the DTV

Once you are in Thailand, remember the 180-day limit per entry. If you want to stay longer without leaving, read DTV extension explained. You may also need to file a 90-day report if you stay more than 90 days.
