Retirement extension documents in Chiang Mai
The documents you need to renew a retirement visa extension at Chiang Mai Immigration, how the financial requirement works and what happens on the day.
How the retirement extension works
A retirement extension is a one-year extension of stay, usually based on a Non-O visa. Each year, before your current permission ends, you apply to Immigration to extend it for another year. In Chiang Mai this is done at Chiang Mai Immigration, and you attend in person.
A complete, well-organised file is the difference between a smooth renewal and a second visit. This guide lists what Immigration usually asks for.
Core documents
- Your passport, with your current retirement extension or 90-day Non-O entry stamp
- Copies of your passport photo page, visa or extension stamps and latest entry stamp, signed
- A recent photo in the format Immigration requires
- The completed application form
- Your TM30 receipt showing your current address
- Your latest 90-day report slip
Immigration may ask for additional documents, such as a map to your home or a rental contract, depending on your case.
Financial documents
You must meet Immigration’s financial requirement. For example, a Thai bank deposit of at least 800,000 baht held for the required period, or another qualifying option Immigration accepts.
If you use a Thai bank deposit, you normally need:
- Your bank book (passbook), updated on or shortly before the day
- A bank letter confirming the balance, issued close to your application date
- Copies of the relevant passbook pages
Exact requirements depend on your bank and your situation. We tell you exactly what to prepare once we know which bank you use, and we help you obtain the bank letter.
Photos
Photos must meet Immigration’s format. You can have them taken at our office, or we can collect your passport and take the photos with you at your home.
